Spring-Ford girls volleyball team finished a perfect season with a 3-1 victory over Pine-Richland in the PIAA 4A State Championship game Saturday, Nov. 15, at Cumberland Valley High School in Mechanicsburg.
The team’s individual leaders include Lila Olsen with 557 kills and 56 aces, Morgan Pupek with 59 blocks, Marley Angelucci with 1045 assists, and Alanna Bricker with 412 digs. Elle Sossong had 507 kills.
The Rams (30-0) dropped the first set in the state championship match but rallied for three straight victories to claim the program’s first-ever state title, 26-28, 25-10, 25-21, 25-14.
Not surprisingly, the Rams were unfazed.
“Losing the first set actually relieved me a little bit,” said Olsen. “The year prior we had beaten North Allegheny in the first set and then they continued to sweep us the rest of the sets. Once we lost the first set I told my teammates that this is what happened last year, so let’s win the next three.”
The Rams did just that and ended their season with the program’s first-ever state championship.
Spring-Ford scored state tournament wins over Upper Dublin, Emmaus, and Bishop Shanahan enroute to the Rams’ historic performance against Pine-Richland in the final.
The Rams went into the District One 4A Tournament unstoppable as well, winning every single set. They defeated Downingtown West 3-0 in the second round of districts, followed by Council Rock South, 3-0, in the quarterfinals, and Garnet Valley, 3-0, in the semifinals before winning over Unionville, 3-0, in the championship match.
Spring-Ford won the Pioneer Athletic Conference Championship match with a 3-1 victory over Pope John Paul II. This win marked the third time the Rams bested their rivals this season, with their prior encounter resulting in a decisive 3-0 win back in September.
