Friday Night Football with a twist

Move over Powerpuff Girls, there’s a new force in Spring-Ford.

The Spring-Ford Powderpuff teams came back and better than ever in both football and cheerleading as a way to kick off the Homecoming weekend festivities.

The senior and junior boys faced off with some iconic routines involving various props like pianos and chairs that were performed both at the pep rally and at the game later that Friday night.

No Powderpuff game is set without the players themselves. There were a record number of teams from each grade that ended with a score of around 100 to 80 involving, of course, a win for the seniors.

What makes this event so special is the help that it brings for the community. Every year, Student Council chooses a charity to donate the profits from the game. This year’s chosen organization was Operation Backpack.

Operation Backpack works to assist families in need located in our community. This organization sends a backpack full of food home with children over the weekend who otherwise may not receive what is necessary over this time period.

From the funds raised through the game, Spring-Ford raised $9,000.

Everyone was excited not only to play or see the cheerleading but also were enthused knowing that all of their fun was going to a worthwhile cause.

“There was even more of a motivation to win and it was so exciting to actually do that,” said Molly Sodicoff on being a senior player this year.

Sadly, now Spirit Week is over.

Will next year’s Powderpuff boys make the most iconic routine yet? Will the seniors win?

Who knows.

Until then, this year’s Spirit Week and Homecoming festivities will live on in everyone’s hearts.
