Spring-Ford seniors officially reached their last month of high school, and the Class of 2025 rang in this exciting month with one of the school’s most-anticipated events – Decision Day.
Decision Day at Spring-Ford is a long-standing tradition that sees seniors and their families meet in Coach McNelly stadium with a T-shirt or sweatshirt of the college, military branch, or trade they will be joining after graduation. The event is one that seniors look forward to all year, having the opportunity to celebrate where friends from the past 12 years will be headed after June 4.
“Decision Day is important because it highlights all the incredible things our graduates are pursuing after they leave Spring-Ford,” Margaret Lusignea, Spring-Ford College and Career Advisor, said.
The event is grand in scope with the entire field full of graduates and family members.
“This event takes a good amount of coordination,” Lusignea said. “It is a combined effort between the FPC, Facilities/Grounds, Communications, Food Services, staff, students, and admin. Everyone plays a part – whether that is field set up, game donations, food shopping, yard sign sales, photos, banner decoration, beverage donations … this event is certainly a group effort!”
Whether they have been committed since the Common App opened in August, or just decided on April 30, students enjoyed talking about what made them decide on a school and what they most look forward to in their next step.
Senior Jayda Tornetta is headed to University of Pittsburgh in the fall, a school she has had her heart set on since sophomore year.
“I love the idea of living in a city and having the school pride in football and basketball games,” Tornetta said. “Cost was also a factor, and Pitt was very generous with money as well as starting at a reasonable price.”
Pittsburgh is a city that lots of Spring-Ford students will be residing in starting in August, whether it be at Duquesne, Pitt, Robert Morris University, or James Madison University.
Maggie McManus first stepped on James Madison’s Harrisonburg campus last summer, and instantly knew it was for her.
“Even though it’s not in a big city or town, the community felt like home and everyone was so welcoming,” McManus said.
JMU might be a few hours away, but McManus finds comfort in the fact she plans on being roommates with another girl who attended Spring-Ford.
“I know it’s not close enough to Limerick to go home on the weekends, but being with high school friends and making new ones will make it feel like a second home,” McManus said. “I know once I get to school I’ll never want to leave.X”
Senior year may have felt daunting at times for students, with so many choices to make and events to go to, but Decision Day is the first of many in May that will celebrate students instead of stressing them out.
Now that they have submitted their deposits and started making plans for their dorms, students looked to round out the month with many more memories.
