After 32 years as an educator, and the past four as Spring-Ford’s superintendent, Robert Rizzo announced his retirement May 5.
“After 32 years dedicated to public education, I have made the decision to retire,” Rizzo wrote in an email to the district. “This decision, made with the full support of my family, comes after careful consideration of my personal and professional goals.
“Since joining Spring-Ford in 2019, I have been deeply impressed by the strength and spirit of this community. My initial understanding of the district, informed by my background in music education and research during my consideration of the Assistant Superintendent role, has been enriched by firsthand experience.”
Rizzo joined Spring-Ford in 2019 as an assistant superintendent and was promoted in 2021 after the resignation of then-superintendent David Goodin.
Rizzo has led Spring-Ford through some important changes. In his three years as superintendent, Rizzo has seen Spring-Ford through the Spring City expansion project, changes to the public school system at both the state and federal levels, the expansion into online learning with the permanent implementation of Canvas, and many more projects that have benefited the Spring-Ford community.
With Rizzo’s announcement, the Spring-Ford School Board has now been tasked to find a new superintendent. Rizzo is encouraging community input during this process to help make the transition between superintendents smoother.
Rizzo’s last day as Superintendent is Aug. 1, just before the beginning of the school year. He emphasized the importance of his time in the district in his message.
“Spring-Ford is more than just a school district; it is a community built upon genuine connections, kindness, and a profound sense of belonging,” Rizzo wrote. “It has been a privilege to be part of such a remarkable place.”
Rizzo said in the message he plans to stay a parent in the district,
“While my role as a leader will conclude, I am grateful to remain a member of this community as a proud Spring-Ford parent,” Rizzo wrote. “I look forward to supporting the district’s ongoing growth and success.”
