Spring-Ford is hosting the Montgomery County Special Olympics Track and Field Competition for the third time on May 8 in Coach McNelly Stadium.
According to the Special Olympics Pennsylvania website, “The mission of Special Olympics PA is to provide year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community.”
Over 500 students volunteered to participate in this year’s event, and organizers Mollie Smith-Wood and Gina High appreciate the help and support from the Spring-Ford students
“Thank you for volunteering,” High said during an introduction meeting with the student volunteers, “This event would not be possible without the support of our student volunteers”
The event will start at 10 am and will be held on the grounds outside the Ninth Grade Center. The day of events is open to the community to come and see all of the hard work that the student athletes have put in this year.
