Some big changes are coming to Spring-Ford’s smallest school. Spring City Elementary is closed for the entirety of the 2024-25 school year in order to receive a major expansion.
The elementary school, which only had the capacity to host two classes of each grade, will have 7,000 square feet added on in addition to a complete remodel of the school’s existing structure.
The plans for a remodel of Spring City’s elementary school, which was named the “Growing with Spring City” project, began in January of 2023 but was not approved until March.
The existing Spring City Elementary was first opened in 1959 and remained unchanged until construction for the expansion project began in June.
The plan provides many benefits for the students and staff at Spring City, including dedicated art and music rooms, which were previously held in a shared space, rooms dedicated to support classes like gifted and speech, which like art and music previously shared a space, two full sized learning support classrooms, and spaces for small group instruction. The plan also renovates the existing classrooms, the cafeteria, and the library.
This also creates future potential for Spring City Elementary to be able to handle full day kindergarten or a grade reconfiguration if the district decides to move in that direction.
While Spring City is closed for the year, the 155 students that attend Spring City will spend the year as students at Upper Providence Elementary. The teachers from Spring City will spend this school year teaching at either UPE or the 5-6 Center.
The Growing with Spring City project is expected to be finished in early August of 2025 and Spring City Elementary will reopen for the 2025-26 school year.
