Every year, Spring-Ford High School students are excited to kick off the start of the school year by participating in the annual Spirit Week, where they can display their school pride through a wide array of costumes and dresses to match each day’s theme.
Traditionally, Spring-Ford’s Spirit Week would last for five days, with notable themes such as USA Day, Decades Day, and Character Day. However, that was not the case this year.
The 2023 Spirit Week took place for only four days, and Spring-Ford’s student government removed these three fan favorites from the Google form that allowed students to pick the spirit themes.
Although students kept their enthusiasm and energy for the week, some were disappointed with how short it lasted, as well as the fact that their favorite days would not be considered.
“I was really upset that Character Day was omitted from Spirit Week,” said junior Cassandra Dryburgh. “This day is like Halloween before Halloween even begins. If they don’t have Character Day as an option for next year’s Spirit Week, I won’t be happy.”
Some students also believed that Spirit Week started off too early. In recent years, Spring-Ford has held Spirit Week usually during the middle of October.
“I was surprised to hear that Spirit Week was going to be held near the end of September,” said senior Madison Hoang. “We are still trying to figure out our schedules and assimilate with the school culture and pride.”
Most students, though, were pleased with the fact that the pep rally was held inside the gymnasium due to rainy weather. Many felt the event brought school spirit to life, and helped bring students from all grades closer together.
Additionally, it was exciting to see all of the activities that used to take place in past pep rallies, such as the basketball knockout tournaments between each class.
“The pep rally being inside was more interesting than the outside pep rallies,” remarked senior Arhan Kaul. “The vibes were electric, and the sound made me feel like I was in a 3D movie. It was hype.”
