Spring-Ford reaches first-ever state semifinals

The Spring-Ford boys basketball team continued its historic run Saturday, March 18, with a 45-39 victory over State College, earning a trip to the PIAA 6A Semifinals for the first time in program history.

Guard Jacob Nguyen led the Rams (28-3) with 22 points and teammate EJ Campbell added 12.

The Rams will play District 3 champion Reading (30-1), which defeated New Castle, 72-48, in another state quarterfinal game Saturday.

The state semifinal will take place Tuesday night, March 21, at 7 p.m. and will be played at District 1 Coatesville High School.

State Quarterfinal: Spring-Ford 43, Hempfield 39

The Spring-Ford boys basketball team joined elite company Wednesday night, March 15, with a 43-39 victory over District 3’s Hempfield in the second round of the PIAA 6A Tournament.

EJ Campbell led the way for the Rams with a game-high 15 points and guard Jacob Nguyen added 11.  Tyree Banks added eight points and two 3-pointers.

Spring-Ford (27-3) earned a ticket to the state quarterfinals where the Rams hope to continue a historic season that saw them already win the Pioneer Athletic Conference and reach the District One championship game for the first time in program history.

The Rams will play State College (25-2), which defeated Pittsburgh Central Catholic 57-47 in its second-round game Wednesday, on Saturday at a time and place yet to be determined.
