The Rams opened up their baseball season Friday against Central Bucks East at Ram Stadium on March 25. In a hard-fought game, East’s offense broke through in the middle innings to hand Spring-Ford a 5-1 loss.

The Rams looked really good through three scoreless innings as both pitching and defense stayed solid. While the Rams had trouble getting on base, they were able to keep the Patriots off the basepaths as well.

A few miscues led to a couple of East runs in the fourth inning, though, and the Rams trailed, 2-0.  The Patriots continued to hit the ball in the middle innings,  adding three more runs in the fifth for a 5-0 lead.

Spring Ford responded with some offense of their own in the fifth, with a run from junior Jake Books courtesy of an RBI single from  Cooper Stone.

Despite the loss, there were several positive takeaways from Friday’s game, as CF Ryan Garvey stood out amongst the crowd and really helped the Rams’ defense. Books was outstanding both fielding at first base and batting, going 2-3 at the plate with a double. Third baseman Ayden McNelly had the other hit for the Rams.
