Rams impress in return with PAC championship

The Rams have earned a PAC Individual Tournament championship, PAC team championship, a state tournament trip, and look forward to another stellar postseason.

The Spring-Ford wrestling team faced a tough task this winter, losing state-champion Joey Milano and state runner-up Jack McGill to graduation.

The returning Rams accepted the challenge impressively, though, posting new highlights so far this wrestling season. The latest accomplishment impressed the most, however, as the Rams won the Pioneer Athletic Conference championship for the third time Feb. 17 in a 47-17 victory over Perkiomen Valley.

After the Rams struggled in the beginning parts of the schedule, losing to Central Bucks West and Council Rock North early on, they bounced back and dominated the rest of the season.

The Rams wrestled their way to a team victory in the Pioneer Athletic Conference Individual Tournament. Cole Smith (113 pounds), Quinn Smith (126), and Ryan Lepore (145) led the way with individual championships. Gus Smith (106), Steven DeAngelo (132), Anthony Attilio (152), and Kyle Huston (189) earned silver medals.

The Rams’ most impressive showing was during dual-meet competition, as they wrestled their way to a third-place showing in the District One Dual Meet Championship to earn a trip to the state tournament. The Rams, unfortunately, dropped a close match in the first round of states, 30-27, to Dallastown.

The Rams clinched another PAC Dual Meet championship with a victory over Perkiomen Valley on Feb. 17. The individual tournament postseason begins shortly thereafter, so there are many more opportunities to increase the accomplishments the Rams’ wrestling program has attained in recent seasons.
