Rams win fifth-straight PAC Championship

Boasting a very young lineup filled with several sophomores and freshmen, the Spring-Ford girls basketball team had something to prove leading into last week’s Pioneer Athletic Conference Final Six Playoffs slate of games.

The Rams passed every test in the conference tournament, defeating Perkiomen Valley in the championship game Wednesday night, 43-36, to claim their fifth-straight PAC championship.

The Rams earned their championship thanks to a tremendous rally in the fourth quarter of the championship, overcoming a five-point deficit by outscoring the Vikings 20-8 in the final frame. Anna Azzara led the scoring for the fifth-seeded Rams with 14 points. Teammate Aaliyah Solliday scored 11 and Mac Pettinelli added 10.

Prior to the final, SF stunned top-seeded Methacton, 49-33, on Feb. 12 in the semifinals to earn a spot in the championship game. The victory over Methacton was made all-the-more impressive by the fact that the Rams had not defeated Methacton at all this year.

Earlier last week, Spring-Ford won the opener against Upper Perkiomen, 66-47. The Rams and Upper Perk had not squared off this season leading into their win-or-go-home playoff game.

Beyond the conference tournament, the Rams will still host at least one other playoff game this season. The Rams currently hold the 10th seed in District One and will face off in the opening round on Friday, Feb. 18.
