The Spring-Ford girls basketball team came into Friday night having not reached the District One 6A Finals since 2014. The Rams had not won since 2013, either, when they went on to win the state title.

All that changed Friday night at Spring-Ford’s home gymnasium thanks to an incredible performance.

Senior Lucy Olsen tied the school record for most points in a game, scoring 33 as the Rams were able to stay undefeated against a tough Plymouth Whitemarsh team in a 52-36 thriller.

The Rams will host Nazareth tonight in the PIAA 6A Semifinals. The game will be broadcast on Ram Country TV.

The Rams (23-0) came out to a slow start offensively Friday, trailing 6-0 in the first quarter. A Hailey Hudak jumper gave the Rams a shot in the arm, and from then on out it was the Olsen show.

Olsen was able to score 10 points of her own in the first quarter, highlighted by a buzzer-beater 3-pointer that gave the Rams a 14-9 lead after the first quarter.

The Colonials were able to stick with the Rams throughout the second quarter through hard physical play and big baskets from Erin Daley, who led the Colonials with 13 points

However, Olsen would continue to dominate with eight points in the quarter and another buzzer-beater to end the half to give the Rams a 24-18 lead.

Coming out in the second half the Rams were able to chew off a large portion of the clock thanks to their quick ball movement and some big baskets from Olsen, Mac Pettinelli, and Anna Azzara. Pettinelli scored eight points in the game as Azzara and Hudak each tallied four points.

Spring Ford will now take on the Nazareth Blue Eagles tonight at Ram Nation Gymnasium in the PIAA State Semifinals. Nazareth has a record of 17-1 on the season and they are coming off of a 50-35 win over Archbishop Carroll in the state quarterfinals.

Madeline Ahearn was the hero for the Blue Eagles in their win over Carroll, as she scored a career-high 16 points to help Nazareth reach its first-ever state semifinal game in program history.

Nazareth is known for its depth and a great seven-player rotation. If Spring-Ford is able to continue to shoot the ball well and make sure to play their strong defense to shut down Ahearn, though, they should have a good chance to come out with the win and reach the state finals for the first time since 2013.
