Senior Joey Milano picked up a championship and teammate Jack McGill finished as runner-up at this past weekend’s PIAA Class AAA East Super-Regional Wrestling Tournament.

Both wrestlers earned spots in Friday and Saturday’s PIAA Class AAA Tournament that will take place at Hershey’s Giant Center.

The Super-Regional – started this year due to social-distancing restrictions – was comprised of wrestlers from the Northeast Regional (District 2, 11, and 12) and Southeast Regional (District 1). The top four wrestlers at the Super-Regional earned places at states for the medal rounds as the tournament essentially functioned as the first rounds of states.

Milano’s path to a Super Regional championship in the 189-pound bracket began with a 17-0 technical fall of Bethlehem Catholic’s Anthony DeRosa. He followed that up with a 5-2 decision over Nazareth’s Drew Clearie, and an impressive 14-2 major decision of Easton’s Isiah Reinert in the finals.

McGill pinned Pittston Area’s James Spindler in the first round and Bethlehem Catholic’s Landon Muth in the semifinals at 160 pounds. The senior lost a touch match against Northampton’s Jagger Condomitti in the championship.

Senior Zach Needles (152 pounds), junior Dominic Ortlip (112), and sophomore Cole Smith (103) saw their seasons end in the consolation round at the tournament despite turning in stellar seasons.
