Staff Report

Three Spring-Ford wrestlers earned individual championships as the Rams won their first-ever team championship at the PIAA Southeast Regional Class AAA Tournament on Saturday.

All five Rams wrestlers competing at regionals advanced to the next stage of the postseason – next week’s East Class AAA Super-Regional Tournament at Quakertown High School. Sophomore Cole Smith (103 pounds) and seniors Jack McGill (160) and Joey Milano (189) wrestled their way to regional gold medals to pace the Rams. Junior Dominic Ortlip (112) and senior Zach Needles (152) also earned trips with a third-place and fourth-place finish, respectively.

Spring-Ford scored 95.5 team points to best runner-up West Chester Henderson (71) and third-place Quakertown (69). The regional championship was the first-ever in the Spring-Ford wrestling program’s history.

The five Spring-Ford wrestlers will compete in Saturday’s East Class AAA Super-Regional tournament along with qualifying wrestlers from the Northeast Regional (District 2, 11, and 12). The top four wrestlers at the super-regional will earn places at the PIAA Tournament the following weekend.

Milano earned his second career regional championship with a dominating performance. The senior scored two pins to earn a trip to the finals and won the gold medal with a 20-4 technical fall of Garnet Valley’s Sam DiTrolio in the finals.

McGill scored a major decision, a pin, and a close, 5-2 victory over Council Rock South’s Matt Colajezzi in the championship match.

Smith earned his first regional gold with an 8-6 victory over Council Rock North junior Tony Burke in the championship match.
