The Spring-Ford boys’ cross country team experienced a rebuilding season last year as they finished 3-2 in the Pioneer Athletic Conference behind a strong group of underclassmen.

This year, many wondered if the rebuilding would matter as the season appeared to be in doubt. Since the season has now been given the all-clear, though, senior runner Anthony Bamford is taking nothing for granted.

“I have to make every practice and race count,” Bamford said.

The Rams will have seven meets this season and will individually face all of the PAC teams that have decided to participate in the fall season.

“I want to do everything I can to help my team compete for the PAC title,” Bamford said. “Every meet matters that much more because there is no championship meet, it is purely by record.”

Bamford also acknowledged the challenges that have come with getting ready for this season that lacked the typical full summer workouts.

“I stayed ready by running five-to-six days a week,” he said. “Our coach also kept us prepared by delivering to us a training plan, so we would be ready at any moment’s notice.”

The Rams will be highlighted by sophomore phenoms Quinn Smith and Ryan Kovaleski, as well as seniors Liam Baker, Andrew Carlin, and Bamford.

Girls Cross Country

While the boys team is experienced, the girls’ cross country team is on the younger side. Finishing 2-2 last year, the Rams will look to build on that record with seniors Alyssa Mulhall and Brooke Donoghue. Junior Julia Breisch is another runner to watch on the team.

Both cross-country teams will follow the same season format — competing in seven league meets, and the league champion will be determined by winning percentage.

The Rams will look for senior Chrstine Colucci and sophomore Abigail Duersch to help them compete to their highest ability as well. Dave Cain will coach this group for the third consecutive year.
