Boys basketball rebounds with strong season

Graduating Noah Baker, Ryan Hagan, and Robert Bobeck, many wondered if Spring-Ford boys basketball was due for a year in which they would take a step back.

This year’s team had other ideas, however.

Led by Zack Skrocki, Tre Medearis, and Pat Kovaleski, the Rams had a strong season highlighted by wins over Upper Merion and Pennridge. The Rams went 13-4 in PAC play, but they unfortunately played their worst basketball of the season in a Pioneer Athletic Conference semifinal.

Pope John Paul II stifled the Rams, beating Spring-Ford at home, 61-31. Coming off their worst loss of the season, many thought the season might end with a first round defeat in district play.

Spring-Ford battled past a scrappy Wissahickon team, though, winning 58-56. In the next round, they traveled to Bensalem and faced a top team in the district. The game was back and forth throughout, but Bensalem figured out the Rams’ offense late to come up with a tough, 48-45 win.

Despite a late flurry from Spring-Ford, their season ended in the first round of playbacks to a high-seeded Garnet Valley team.

This season’s team needed a few bounces to go their way to get themselves another state birth. Unfortunately, that did not happen. But, this Spring-Ford team should and certainly will be remembered as a team that fought and clawed for everything it earned.
