Remembering the 2010’s
March 25, 2020
There are 365 days, 8760 hours, 525,600 minutes in a year. Now that may seem like a long time, yet there we were on Dec. 31 counting towards the end of 2019 already.
It is a funny thing, the time adds up and with life continuously flying by. It is hard to find time to reflect on everything that has happened.
Our society makes celebrating New Years an annual tradition. In my humble opinion, it is one of the most beautiful things that everyone, from every walk of life, takes time to celebrate the end of a chapter of time every year.
This year coming to an end was especially mind-boggling because we also reached a new decade. Suddenly it is not just celebrating 365 days, 8760 hours, and 525,600 minutes, but 3650 days, 87,600 hours, and 5.256e+6 minutes.
Many have been looking back on that time and how much they have grown individually and how society has bloomed. The 2010’s were years of advancement.
Movies at last have been featuring more minorities with some highlights being ‘Black Panther,’ ‘Wonder Woman,’ ‘Crazy Rich Asians,’ ‘Love Simon’ and so much more. Hollywood also created hits ‘Avengers:End Game,’ ‘Arrival,’ ‘Django Unchained,’ ‘Hereditary,’ ‘Wolf of Wall Street,’ ‘Inception,’ ‘Moonlight,’ ‘Mad Max Fury Road,’ ‘Get Out,’ and ‘The Master.’
Technology has continued to progress. This decade birthed the virtual home assistant, wireless earbuds, self driving cars, Instagram, ride-sharing apps, remote-controlled drones, direct-pay apps, 4 G networks, the first iPad, and so many more things that have become part of our everyday lives.
Fashion has evolved as well. We have seen jeans go from low waisted to high waisted, sweats go from juicy to champion, fur has become faux, and workout attire has been on the rise. Looking at pictures from even five years ago is now comical, seeing ourselves wear what we once thought was so cool.
Trends come and go. What we find so enticing now will soon be something we laugh at or even forget all about. There are things that the 20’s will bring we could never even expect just like the 10’s have.
For students, it is the years of change ahead of us. The years of adulthood, graduation and careers. However, the sentiment of the 10’s will forever be a chunk of our heart, as they brought a lot of change. But most importantly, they brought us our childhood.
